Chief Data Scientist at One Brave Idea; Lead Investigator, Division of Cardiology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital
Rahul Deo, M.D., Ph.D., joined One Brave Idea in May 2018. He is the Chief Data Scientist at OBI. Prior to joining One Brave Idea, Deo served as Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco and Principal Investigator at the Cardiovascular Research Institute. He was also a faculty member of the Institute for Human Genetics and the Institute for Computational Health Sciences at UCSF, and the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences. After completing medical school at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, he underwent training in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and in Cardiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He has a wide breadth of research experience, including a doctorate in Molecular Biophysics from the Rockefeller University, and postdoctoral research at Harvard Medical School in human genetics and computational biology. Dr. Deo’s research employs a variety of experimental and computational tools to understand the mechanistic basis of heterogeneity in diseases of the heart muscle. His broad scientific research program, which includes the use of zebrafish and rodent models of cardiac disease as well as innovative applications of machine learning to patient phenotyping, has motivated him to develop iterative, data-driven approaches to bridge the gap between patient data and experimental models.
